I am not sure what to do. I am NOT crazy about MSFS, simply due to the fact it is still baking. I have had every sim since FS95, and a few before that. I have to say that this current one was removed from the oven earlier than any other version, imho. While scenery is popping up all over for it, few aircraft are coming into the picture. I don't think there is that much of a difference with aircraft, as Carenado has moved two of their planes over already. They don't work at exactly lightening speed! Scenery must also be very similar to FSX. The scenery is GREAT for VFR and low altitude flying, which is what I do. I give it a solid 9 for that. The aircraft are crap, imho. I do not like them at all. I am hoping add-on planes are superior to them. I do need to add on a new video card to get the most out of the clouds and such, so hardware is an issue, though a very slight issue. I don't mind CAVU flying for now! X-Plane now. It is simply too bare without sinking a LOT of money into scenery. The aircraft included feel like they are on the tip of a pencil to me. They are always looking to do something all the time, except fly straight and level. Add-on aircraft are superb that I have purchased. The Porter is out of this world. I wish I had held off on buying the Beaver, because this new one looks fantastic, and was made by the same folks who built the Porter. Again, not sure what to do with money with either of these sims!! I find myself heading back to good old FSX all the time. It is tuned in. Sure, I have had 11 years to tune it in, but everything is there. Again, these are my opinions, and I am sure others will differ, some may even have the same.
I announced my retirement one week ago today, so going forward, I will not have the same $$$ to throw around. I want to stay in the hobby now that every day will soon be Saturday, but I need to see what path I need to follow. I think for MSFS, I need to keep it updated and come back in a year and see what is out there; XP, not sure of at all; or do I just plug along in FSX and see what exists in both sims in January 2022. Time will tell.

FWIW: What you have said are my feelings and reaction to MSFS to a tee. I too will plug along with FSX for the duration. Cheers Carm.

Once that 'new car' feeling wears off, it seems a lot of people are having diminished expectations. I've never believed that MS was doing this in any way as a redemption for their abandonment of FSX - it's bottom line all the time and this product is destined for the X-box kingdom. It may look like a simulator's dream come true right now but 'caveat emptor' says don't.

I have MSFS but only use it to fly around looking at scenery. Not doing any serious flying with it. I feel pretty much the same about it. It is an incomplete product. They couldn't even bother to put in seaplane bases. Yes, I know there are a very few but geez they couldn't even be bothered to put in the busiest seaplane base in the world. I have a few add on aircraft from various vendors but they are all about on par with the default stuff.
I have never liked X-Plane. Tried X-Plane 9 and hated it.
I am heavily involved over at FSEconomy and still use FSX for that and any serious flying. Have a ton of aircraft add ons and scenery for it so it still works fine for me.
Maybe in a year or so MSFS will be good enough but right now other than the fantastic scenery, it just doesn't cut the mustard. I kind of feel like they are targeting gamers rather than serious flight simmers. We got a ton of new members at FSEconomy because of MSFS and most of them act like gamers rather than simmers.

I still miss a lot of things about FSX but have been using XP11 for a while now - it's not nearly as user friendly but the flying dynamics is pretty real and, if you're so inclined, allows you to get in there and fiddle with stuff so you learn a little more about how it works. XPlane's primary business is their professional version so the hoi poloi version is more of an afterthought hence the lack of eye candy features. Austin may accept MSFS's challenge and allow weather and other missing goodies to feature but probably not 'til V12.

Agree 100%. I am sitting on MMXX for now. I keep it updated. I tried XP, but I just don't care for it. I am hooked on American Truck Simulator, so I have been playing with that. Maybe at the end of 2021 I will look at MMXX again. I do watch over addons and aircraft. Once again, but moreso this time, WE are testing it. Planes are pure crap. Perfect for XBox. Scenery is spectacular. IF they caame out with planes I flew, I would fly it more.

Me too. Fly MSFS once in a while, cause it's so pretty. Waiting for better flight dynamics, and helicopters. I use P3D 5 for FSE myself. Have a fleet of 3 choppers, and 3 light GA twins right now. Sue

Well, Carm, that is indeed miserable. What are you going to do? It's amazing what can be accomplished these days.
