I did the 1st leg of Flt 021 which is the early morning flight from Sioux Lookout to Red Lake to Dryden then on to Thunder Bay this morning. My FO did the other legs as she's still getting her feet wet in flying the north country. The wx wasn't the best this morning as it was cold, windy and vis was down to 2 mi in light snow. It was pretty bumpy coming out of Sioux Lookout as we climbed for 14000 on our 70 nm flight to Red Lake. Red Lake was considerably better although the winds were still pretty gusty, but the Beech 1900 handled it pretty well all in all. Flight time was about 30 minutes, give or take and we had a pretty full ship thus were at gross on takeoff. We didn't lose anyone enroute so all in all, it was a successful trip. I'm not that familiar with the 1900, although I was quite impressed with its handling for this trip. Nevertheless, when I'm not flying off the lakes into remote camps, my preference is for the Metroliner in the cargo mode. Probably see some of that later today or this week .
Getting loaded up at Sioux Lookout
Climbing between layers. Winter has definitely arrived here in NW Ontario!
It was better as we got closer to Red Lake. Clouds were breaking up nicely, although it was still windy.
Red Lake has a non-precision VOR approach into it. Next time I may do the RNAV approach, but I believe in staying sharp on the "conventional" navaids.
The approach worked great and the 1900 was solid and stable as we beat a path to the runway.
Down and unloading/reloading for the trip to Dryden. We expected a full ship to Thunder Bay from Dryden today.
Thanks for looking .
