I've been seeing it for years and am still waiting for a further announcement about the "Bush flying screenshot contest". My interest was piqued then and still is though now I forget why. Come on great leader and give us the lowdown.

I noticed it the other day! LOL! That was when this place was rolling with about 25 people and everyone was flying. Now there are about 6 of us left and I'm not sure who is still flying. I'm not doing anything to speak of. Fired it up about two weeks ago for a few patterns around FLL-MIA and that was about it. I am waiting for the new one, but that may or may not boost this place. After being on a computer all day, I am tired of sitting behind one at night anymore! LOL!

I fly a bit now and again but not like the old days. But being confined to my house, I'm starting to get back to it.

Still pretty much a screen shooter. A friend in Calgary has been teaching me about color shaders, LUT's and how to make your sim look better - interesting stuff. Amazing how much of this your average sim doesn't have. Used to say this kept me out of bars but now there are no bars.

And what are color shaders and LUT's, if I may so bold as to ask?

Each of the simulators comes with it's own set of shaders which are the basis for your various rendering settings (color, shadows, light/dark, curves etc.) but, especially with XP, outside developers have created files or groups of files which augment and improve those settings. LUT's are 'color lookup tables the sim uses to variegate your colors. I take some pictures whose colors I really like and create a color lookup table in PS - it becomes a horizontal string of color squares running the gamut of colors in your pictures. Size it down to 1032X64, save as a lut.png and plant it in the correct spot in your sim. I only have a clue about XP but the others are probably very similar. If you don't care for that one, make another 'til you find the one that suits.

Right. LUT, "look up tables", of course. I do know about those but I don't know how to change them in the sim. A while back there was a program called "Shade" for FSX which you could use to modify the colors, contrast and brightness. It was pretty good if a bit annoying to set up.

I read a rumor that, with the advent of MS2020, they may do some upgrading for FSX SE (I'm guessing that's the one on Steam). Don't know how that sits with their lockheed Martin agreement but I do know that running a 'Steam' version is good - had my XP on that from the gitgo and also AFS2 which I don't fly very much.

If FS2020 lives up to promise, I'll be going with that. I don't know about Steam, what makes it advantageous?

It's handy and in the few years I've had XP it's never been unavailable. It does the update and beta's if you want and, a feature I really like, when the sim goes a little pear shaped, it can check all files and replace those that are questionable. No disks - remember the dreaded disk4 for FS9. There was a hack but it was unAmerican to even consider it. Last but not least, it's often on sale at Steam - that's how I got it.

It's also upgraded a bit from the stock FSX, been optimized a little for modern machines. So I'm told... I use it for all my non OrbX scenery. Watch for a sale, and you can get it for $5.99. All your FSX add ons will work with it. Sue

For the FSX'ers - got an email from 'Just Flight' today saying all "Flight Replica" models are on sale 50% off at the JF site. He had the best Super Cub/J3 series and some really good WW2 planes.

Hmmm, can you run it offline?
