Fritz, here's how LCEU presents Cuers. Just down the road, the historic port of Toulon where a young army captain named Bonaparte got his start. The Gulf of St Tropez - 'nuff said.

The geography looks about right but the roads are a right mess and the town layout of Cuers is an approximation at best. Still and all, it's not so bad. Definitely recognizable though "I follow roads" could get you in big trouble.

Well, we have to remember that even with OpenLC, Global, Vector & mesh, it's still not a fully "fat" region. Maybe that's what's sort of discouraging about it. All that is costing one a fair penny now (far, far more than the original sim) and it's still not like looking at a map. On the surface I think that for myself, it's getting a bit too expensive to keep going with this given we still don't have "accurate" features by and large, but also it makes me realize just how big a job it would be to reproduce a truly map-like scenery package on this sort of scale. I was concerned to read, however, that where textures were rather badly botched up, Orbx said that they are still being constrained by the 1 km x 1 km grid issue. This was supposed to have been "taken care of" so we really aren't much further ahead than we were before. All that said, I had a quick look around the SW corner of Alberta last night, using the current time of year. I've lived there and I can tell you, that area is a rich green (and turning a rich gold about now from where the wheat fields are, although Alberta is mostly rangeland down there). In Orbx's world (and this is in CRM), it looks like winter has just ended or is about to start - the fields are mostly brown with a smattering of green, and the area adjacent to the mountains looks more like the Gobi Desert than SW Alberta. To say I'm disappointed in that, is an understatement of epic proportions. I had planned on spending some time there. Not now, and now I'm wondering why I paid the bucks for a fully fat region when frankly, texture-wise UTX and FScene gave a far, far better rendition. That's a shame because it's a gorgeous part of Canada.

Glenn, I agree with what you have to say about Orbx Regions. I like the way Orbx PNW looks; but that being said, it isn't really all that realistic.
On Vancouver Island I spend decades 4x4 bashing the logging roads and to tell you the truth UTX Canada blows Orbx PNW away! I can navigate the roads and trails I am so familiar with in UTX but they just don't exist in Orbx land! The coastlines, islands and lakes are more accurate in Orbx PNW (and it sure looks pretty), but for navigation by road UTX rules.

Hopefully the updated version of vector will correct most of the willy-nilly roads and put water in stream beds - it's been taking quite a while.

Read a post by JV at ORBX that VECTOR 1.2 would be out soon but forgot exactly when he said it would be.

Ahhh, the beach house. I find it a tad small when guests drop by.

I was going to say something, but didn't want to embarrass you. I see you're "hip" to the situation though. So next time I come, you'll have something more "suitable" for me to stay in, I trust ?

Careful Glenn!! As I remember those "accomodations" in 'Viva la France' there are only two footprints on the concrete floor and a small hole. You don't want to be anywhere near them in southern French temps. Go for the Beach house---much better choice, believe me. Cheers, Carm.

Stayed at a quaint little hostel there and the 'head' was the foot stones, hole in the floor and a very long chain connected to an overhead tank. Made the mistake (just once) of standing on the foot pads and pulling the chain. Oh joy the room proceeded to flush up around my ankles. The long chain was so you could exit the little room and then pull the chain. Oh well~!

Lol, I first saw facilities like that in northern Italy. I was surprised, but soon grew to appreciate the simplicity. Cleaning the facility was done with a hose, not a bucket and brush. So which is more civilized?

Your memories Sandy and Spud gave me a good laugh. It was always interesting to see the reaction of your lady--wife preferably, the first time she, just freshly from Canada had to " go" . Many refused to 'go there'. After another wee drinkee or three they always gave in, very reluctantly. SPUD--- I remember the entire wall of the pisserie would be flooded from the top down. There was a gutter that ran all around the room where the wall met the floor to take away the flush. you had be quick to suckin and jump back when the flush came or you'd get soaked. Cheer Carm.
